Beautiful Sunsets Don’t Mean Good Tips (7/15/19)

So before I get started with today, I just wanted to quickly mention the little gift that put a smile on my face last night. So when I got home, I played a game of League with Mags, and then decided it was finally time to make myself some dinner at you know, 1AM. I walked into the kitchen to turn on the oven to find the new roommate in my apartment making some food and drinking some wine. I didn’t want to get in his way, but he told me he was just finishing up anyways, and even offered me a glass of wine, since he was drinking a bottle at that time. We ended up chatting for a little while, and after I finished the glass he had poured, he was even kind enough to pour me a second glass before he headed off to his room. It’s just nice to have conversations with a roommate for once; nothing crazy, but good little conversations, instead of real basic “hellos”. He also told me that my food was smelling really good, so that felt good. It’s always the little things that can really put a smile on your face.

Now today I kept with the same rhythm that I’ve kept with this weekend; I woke up just before noon and relaxed in bed for a while, before getting up at 12:40 and playing a game of League. I actually won this game too, so it seems to be working for now. No matter what, it definitely helps me to hold off from playing too much League and just getting tilted from losing games. After I finished the game, I headed to the shower and got ready for the day, before walking out the door and catching the 2:15 A downtown.

I got off the train and made it to Eataly by 2:55, and after checking the break room to see what was for lunch today, I headed to the floor, clocked in, and started my shift. Today I was stocking lowboys again, so I got to it, and before I knew it, it was almost 3:30. Before I went, I helped one of the other servers with ice, since he was by himself doing that, and we were both assigned to lowboys as well. After clocking out, I headed to the break room and grabbed myself a small plate of food, and after not being too impressed with what was for lunch, I just headed to Pret for my usual. Today they had my salmon dish, but they were unfortunately out of that apple yogurt dish that I got yesterday, so I settled for chips and a chocolate chip cookie.

After finishing my lunch, I headed back to Eataly, and after a quick stop in the bathroom, I clocked back in and headed over to pre-shift. After we finished up, it was time to get to work. Now today was actually pretty slow, but it’s not like I wasn’t doing anything. I still had plenty of tables, and felt good… well other than the very beginning where I accidentally put in a table’s order under another servers table that had already gotten everything, so panicked I sprinted over to the kitchen and told them to ignore the ticket. Seriously talk about a way to really get your heart moving. Now even though I still had really good energy, I swear to god I had some of the worst fucking tippers today. Like normally I’ll get one or two that are terrible, but today it was like 4 or 5. And all of the terrible tips were all cash basically. I had one table tip my like $4 on a $70 check, and my favorite was a table who tips under $2 on a fucking $120 check. Like if you are coming to America, look up the customs and tip your FUCKING WAITERS. Jesus Christ it’s just so disrespectful, since this is how we get our living wage. You may not agree with it, but that doesn’t mean that you get a free pass.

It goes to show the positives of working at Eataly though, when I still ended the night making $250 in credit card tips, and $60 in cash tips. I finally ended the night rolling with another server, who actually told me that I should play Jeremy from Be More Chill, which immediately started a conversation because as you all know, I love that show and Jeremy is literally my type to a T. We headed out of work and parted ways, and I got on the train and headed home. I was on the A for most of the way, but when we stopped at 125th and didn’t move for a while, I hopped on the C for the final few stops. Now I felt a little bad about complaining, because apparently a passenger needed medical assistance, but that still didn’t change the fact that I want to be home. I’m actually walking the final blocks home, and am just going to stop by Rite-Aid real quick before going home and playing League with Mags. Tomorrow I have off, so we’ll see what the day has in store for me!

Until next time,
