The Final Day of Training (Feeling Hungry, But Real Good)(6/19/19)

So today was my third and final day of training. I had work starting at 9:30AM until 4:30PM, and I was ready to go. I mean don’t get me wrong, I was tired of course. I got up at 7:30 and left my house by 8:35, ending up at work by 9:25 and starting the day off. I was working with a different server today, so I was curious how everything was going to go, but he was really helpful honestly. We started the day, just stocking low-boys, before taking a break from 10-10:30. I went to a nearby Pret and grabbed myself some breakfast, before heading back and sitting down with everyone for pre-shift, and just like that, the shift began. Now with Alex the past two days I worked, I mostly just followed her around and eventually took a few tables with her right next to me. This time, however, the server I worked with, Ruy, had me just take tables on my own, and come to him for help. I was a bit nervous at first, but luckily we were not really all that busy today, so it worked out for me.

As the day began, I started with one or two tables in Ruy’s section, then moved to four tables, and then I believe I ended up doing six tables at a time. Now when I begin on Friday, I am going to be dealing with 10-12 tables, or more, so this was still definitely the tutorial, but I genuinely think I held my own. I took care of different sized groups, varying from two to seven, and I only had one mistake throughout the day, which happened at the very beginning; I accidentally put in the wrong pasta, and a guest ended up waiting quite a while for her food. Definitely not a great feeling, but it happens. Other than that though, I genuinely had fun with the guests, and ended the day smiling; feeling really good about how I did today. Also fun story- one of the guests wanted to know if he could buy my shirt, or something like it, because on the back of all Eataly shirts, it says “Italians are everywhere” lmao. Now I know Friday is going to be busier, and I am nervous of course, but I’m also ready to start actually making some money. Like I am broke and I am FEELING it. As 4:30 hit, I ended up transferring two tables to the server taking over Ruy’s section, and I closed out for the day. I added up all the tips, documented everything, and then headed on home. I probably should’ve grabbed some food at some point, but oh well.

When I finally got home around 6, I was starving. Like I know I could have made some dinner for myself, but I could not wait the hour or more that it would take me to prepare everything. I decided it would be best to just go out and get something, so I attempted to go to the Subway, which I found very quickly to still be under renovation; instead, I did the unthinkable, and headed to McDonald’s, where I got a Big Mac meal for dinner. Not one of my proudest moments, but I needed food in my system. After getting back and eating, I played League for a while until I started feeling quite hungry again, so I headed off to the Rite-Aid and picked up not only Air Heads XTremes bites, but also vanilla and strawberry wafers! I haven’t had a wafer in years, but there’s such a nostalgia to them that I had to get them. I got back home and then finished out the night watching Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr.; Such a fantastic movie. Tomorrow I’m going to send out the letter, and I have no idea what’s going to happen after that. Maybe I’ll receive a letter back, or maybe I’ll receive a text. My mind always reverts to the worst possible scenario, but I hope something positive comes from it. It’s definitely a hefty read, but at least my drawings on the envelope are nice! Here’s to the future- whatever it may hold for me.

Until next time,
