A Rough Start to a Busy Day, Interesting Customers, and a Relaxing Night with Some Donuts and a Bottle of Wine (9/16/18)

Today I woke up at around 7:20, but didn’t end up getting out of bed until 8:00AM or so, and quickly hopped into the shower and got ready for work. Unfortunately I was running late because of course I was, and left my apartment at 8:46— I was aiming to catch the 8:48 train, so I could make it to work on time, but of course when I arrive at 8:48, the train had already left, and the next train arrived at 9:00AM. Great. So the train arrives, I get in, and we begin moving. Now normally the express A train goes from 175th to 168th to 145th, to 125th, and then 59th street. It normally does that, but of course today was the day where the A train rode on the local track until 125th, and then it goes express to 59th. Now normally it would be okay, but those extra few minutes I lost were minutes I needed today. I finally arrived at Jay Street at around 9:45. And of course today was the day when the next D train (because the F is not running at the moment, so the D is running on the F line) did not arrive for another 11 minutes. Great. I finally arrived at work at about 10:05 or 10:10; it’s not that big of a deal, but I still don’t like being late. Fucking MTA makes me want to die.

Now as I finally arrive at work, and begin prepping for today’s Brunch. I had to clock out at about 10:40 so I could buy myself a sandwich from next store. Since I hadn’t eaten anything today, and didn’t feel like passing out during service, I bought a BLT, just like I did yesterday. Super cheap and honestly pretty good. Alright, rant over. Now then, the service finally began. It was quite a busy day today, with multiple large groups coming in throughout the day. I didn’t really have time to think, because I was running around from table to table. I wasn’t stressed at all, which is very good, but I was still kept extremely busy. Like always, I have a few stories that I am happy to share with you all today. The first story was a 5 top that arrived at around 11:30. They were a good table, but the thing that I found amazing was that when they went to pay for the check with one card, on the back of the bill I noticed that the table attempted to do some math, to put different amounts of the bill on four or five cards. And then it’s all scratched out and there’s one card— Which just means they really tried to figure this out, and got so frustrated they just gave up and had the check put on one card. It’s not that funny, but I got such a kick out of it at the time. The other story was a four top who came in around 1:30. They were four of the most stereotypical basic female millennials I’ve seen in quite a while. Like the entire time they were Instagram’ing and Snapchat’ing themselves and each other. One of them even asked to get a different wine because she wanted a different color for an Insta picture. Like god DAMN. Not because she didn’t like the taste. Because she wanted a better picture. The way the talked and acted throughout their time in the restaurant was baffling. But we accept anyone and everyone at Emma’s Torch, and I don’t mind at the end of it all.

When work finally ended and we were all cleaned up, we sat down and ate the family meal of the day, which included some delicious house-made fried chicken. After I gobbled down the meal and got ready to lead, I was offered to take some of the opened wine that we were going to toss otherwise, which was our Oratoire St. Martin. We also had one of our people come in with donuts today for our head chef, since it was his birthday. But because it was his birthday, he was given the day off. Aka, to make a long story short— I got myself some wine and free donuts! If that’s not the best way to end another week at work, I don’t know what is. I have spent the rest of the night watching some Youtube videos, playing League, drinking some wine, and enjoying these delicious donuts (from Doughnut Plant New York City). I also watched the Daniel Sloss Comedy Specials again, and they are still damn good the second time around. I’m not sure what the plan is for this week, besides an audition I have on Wednesday, because I was supposed to go to an open call for a National Tour of Legally Blonde, but I cannot find it on Backstage anymore. (Kill me)

I really want something exciting to happen soon. I’m not sure what it could be– a step forward in my Acting career, something new happening in my love life? I don’t know. I like to think if I put good vibes out into the world, good luck will follow suit. But I guess all I can do is keep moving forward, and I cannot wait to tell you what happens moving forward. I’m just not sure what that is yet. Now for some well needed rest– I am exhausted.

Until next time,

-Michael
